A passkey lets you sign in to the portal without typing a user name or password.
It is stored on your device (computer, phone or security key) and is unlocked the same way you
unlock that device: with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN (Windows Hello, Touch ID, Face ID).
- No password to remember or type
- Protected against phishing: a passkey only works on this portal's website
- Your fingerprint, face and PIN never leave your device
Depending on where you save it, a passkey can stay on one device or sync to your other devices
through iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, or Microsoft.
🧭 How to Use a Passkey
1. Creating a Passkey (once, on each device you use)
- Sign in to the portal with your Microsoft (Azure) account.
- In the top-right menu under your name, select Manage My Passkeys.
- Optionally enter a device name (for example "Work Laptop"), then click Register New Passkey.
- Confirm with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN.
2. Signing In with a Passkey
- Click Sign in with Passkey.
- Choose your passkey if your device asks, and confirm with your fingerprint, face, or device PIN.
- You are signed in. If your email has more than one portal profile, choose the profile to continue.
💡 Tips
-
On another computer you can use the passkey on your phone: choose the phone or QR-code option
when the browser asks, and scan the code with your phone.
- You can register several passkeys, for example one on your laptop and one on your phone.
-
If you lose a device, sign in with your Microsoft (Azure) account and delete that device's
passkey in Manage My Passkeys. Deleting it there does not remove it from the
device itself; you can remove it in the device's password or passkey settings.
- If a passkey stops working with a message that it was disabled, contact the portal administrator.
🛡️ Is It Safe?
Yes. Passkeys protect you from:
- Phishing websites (a passkey cannot be used on a fake site)
- Weak or reused passwords
- Password leaks: the portal stores only a public key, which cannot be used to sign in
Your fingerprint, face and PIN never leave your device.
